In the basement of our art building, there were probably 10 practice rooms that had these old, out-of-tune pianos that I used religiously. But there were 2 locked rooms that had beautifully tuned grand pianos that took up the entire space. One day, the lock was broken. I snuck in and recorded Deserve It. I wish you could actually hear the difference that my $60 microphone couldn't capture. But I really thought I was onto something.

I didn't do too much to Deserve It in its new life. She's a little bigger and packs more of a punch, but I didn't feel like she needed too much more. I always wanted Deserve It to be this sonic break between the first half of the album and the second. It's a little more sparse, easy to listen to, and soft, even if the lyrics are some of the heaviest on the album.
